Living in Winter Wonderland

The Grand Teton

We are now living in Wyoming! It is January and is the heart of winter. It snows about everyday to every few days, depending on the week. We had 2 warm days (36 degrees) this week and it was just warm enough for the foot or so of snow to slide off the roof (we have a metal roof). I would say we have 3 -4 ft of snow on the ground. The park keeps the roads and our driveways plowed, so it's not too bad getting out to Jackson. Jackson is an hour away and is where we go to church and do any shopping. Major shopping gets done in Idaho Falls, ID, which is 2 1/2 hours away! It is absolutely beautiful here. Martin and the kids have been skiing at Teton Village (now called Jackson Hole Mountain Resort) a few times. I'll have to join them one of these days. We see moose, elk, coyote and bald eagles and occasionally bison just about every time we drive to Jackson. We've also been seeing a pretty fox behind our house. The mountains are magnificent and with all the snow, we are truly living in a postcard winter wonderland.

Moving

The Hauchs are moving! Martin has accepted a position with the National Park Service in the Grand Tetons which are located in Wyoming. As you can tell by the photo, it is absolutely beautiful and we cannot wait to see this beautiful view each and every day. Lord willing, we will be heading out west mid-October.

Garden Goodies

I didn't take pictures of our garden like I thought I would. But here are some of our veggies. I am convinced that the Zucchini and Squash grow overnight. We planted a row each of both of these and see now that we only need about 2 plants of each. With 2 plants each we still would have plenty for ourselves and to give away! We are giving so much away and still throwing some out! It's sad! We had lots of corn, romaine lettuce, tons of grapes (until the Japanese beetles got into them!) and lots more.

More Pics of Brumbaugh Visit

Brumbaugh Visit

We had a visit from a very dear family, the Brumbaughs. Melissa is also one of my closest friends on this planet. They live in Wyoming and came for a week the first part of May. They lived in Custer, SD when we did. Sweet sweet family. We started off by meeting them at my folks house near Mtn Home. Papa took Dave and Martin fishing. Then we went to Silver Dollar City. It was a great time because there was hardly anyone there! You could literally stay on a ride to ride it again. The roller coasters were a hit. I even hopped on one because litte Abby (age 6) needed someone to ride with her. I figured if a 6 year old could do it I could too. What was I thinking?!?!? My eyes were closed the entire ride and I was praying that God would not allow me to die on that thing. The roller coaster was called PowderKeg. You go from 0-53 mph in 2.8 seconds. We also went to Pea Ridge National Park. What a fun week. We also let the Brumbaughs in on a secret that we were going to South Dakota at the end of the month. We knew Nicholas would not be able to get any school done if he knew about it so we waited to tell him until the week before we left. More about that in the next post.

Garden

We finished getting the garden in this past weekend. We are planting onions, cabbage, collard greens (by accident, I thought they were cabbage plants!) bell peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, green beans, corn and tomatoes! Nicholas and Rachel did most of the planting while Dad supervised and I kept my eye on Rebekah!
